Binding torn, title page restored, part of the Errata missing, traces of woodworm. The postil contains 31 Latin sermons on St. John of Nepomuk, written at the time of his canonisation (1729). It is the author's first printed work. The print exists in two variants. The difference lies in the information on the title page. In the first variant the place of publication and the printer's name are given; in the second, a note was added stating where the print was sold. The printer was Jan Václav Helm, with whose work de Waldt was, however, dissatisfied. Helm did not give the preacher the text for proofreading before printing, so it appeared with nearly 200 errors. Waldt filed a complaint, and Helm subsequently printed errata, placed in the second variant after the index (Source: I. Bendová: ONDŘEJ FRANTIŠEK DE WALDT A JEHO CHVÁLOŘEČI, master's thesis, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University, Olomouc 2011, pp. 20-21). The present copy is therefore the second variant, since the last leaf has on its verso the beginning of these Errata, the rest of which is missing. Ondřej František Jakub de Waldt - Czech preacher and man of letters, one of the Baroque defenders of the Czech language. He studied from 1694 to 1699 at the Jesuit gymnasium in Březnice, later at Prague University: from 1700 to 1702 at the faculty of philosophy, and from 1703 to 1706 at the archiepiscopal seminary. He was ordained a priest in 1706 and worked in several places in South Bohemia, where he was a sought-after preacher. He spent most of his life (from 1708 as administrator and from 1724 as parish priest) in Dobrš near Volyně. He published some of his sermons in print, writing in Latin or Czech.
