Solid binding damaged, loose, spine with fragments of paper labels. Claude Chalemot - French Cistercian abbot, historian and hagiographer, active at the monastery of La Colombe. He earned a doctorate in theology at the Sorbonne. He was also vicar general of the order. He wrote the book Series Sanctorum et beatorum ac illustrium virorum Sacri Ordinis Cisterciensis, published in 1666, describing the history of Cistercian saints. Matěj Tanner - Czech Jesuit priest and writer from the circle of Jan Bedřich of Valdštejn. He wrote in Czech and Latin. His works were educational, historical or hagiographic in nature. He came from a family of a wealthy burgher; his brother Jan was also a writer. In 1646 he entered the Jesuit order, completing his novitiate in Brno. He studied at the order's colleges in Jičín and Kutná Hora, and then, from 1651 to 1659, theology and philosophy at Prague University. In 1660-1661 he was professor of ethics at Olomouc University. From 1662 he lectured on philosophy and theology at Prague University, serving as its rector in 1674-1675. He was provincial of the Bohemian Jesuit province in 1676-1679 and 1686-1689. Together with his elder brother Jan he carried out missionary work in the Těšín region. As a writer he focused on the history of the Jesuit order and compiled a biographical dictionary of famous Jesuits active throughout the world.
